Maszalida Hamzah holds a Ph.D. in Creative Technology from MARA University of Technology (UiTM) Malaysia. She teaches Philosophy of the Arts and Film History at the Faculty of Film, Theatre & Animation UiTM, Malaysia. Her book on Garin Nugroho’s Photo-poetry is a breakthrough in placing South East Asian filmmakers as Photo-poets and their films as Photo-poetry through her M-Approach (Maszian approach). Her writings in both English and translated to French can also be read from the book Southeast Asian Cinema published by Asiaexpo Edition France. Her Ph.D. celebrated the wisdom in tradition through the Winds of the Dalang in the Malay Shadowplay.. When time permits, Maszalida creates short films (with grants), writes scripts for TV and also poetry. Maszalida is highly influenced by philosophies of Plato, Kant, Bazin, Santayana, Nietzsche and thoughts from Ibn Arabi and Nasr.

Dr. Maszalida Hamzah was the Malaysian coordinator/ Editor for Asian Cinema Journal, Fall 2011, Temple University U.S.A. and representative for Edutourism under the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). She is currently Panel assessor for the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA), R & D Head for Malaysian Association for Language Testing (MALT), President for Malaysian Association of Regional Academia in the Arts (ARCADIA), member of Creative Content Industrial Guild (CCIG) Malaysia & member of the Oxford Philosophical Society.

Prior to her entry into the academia, she was a freelance writer for magazines such as Going Places & Dewan Falsafah & Agama, a Publishing Manager for I.D.E.A. Magazine (Malaysian Architects of the Southern Chapter) and a Scripwriter for TV programme (Dilema Wanita).

KENCHANA YUSOF is a stagecraft enthusiast eversince she joined Centre Stage Performing Arts dan Custom Costume Sdn Bhd. circa year 1988. At the same time she received her BA in Art & Design (Fashion) in year 1992 from UiTM. In 1995, Chana Sak Sdn Bhd was set up with her spouse to work professionally in stage artistic design and stagecrafting. Her ability to translate and execute designs are visible thru numerous projects tendered by Istana Budaya and Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia in 1998 until 2001.

In 2001 she went to California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, CA, USA to receive a MFA in Stage Management. A change of field of expertise puts a halt in Kenchana’s involvement in the stage art scenario. Her vast experience in theater production and administration proved valuable to participate in the production of arts management program courses with FiTA, UiTM. She also chaired FiTA-Library Comittee in order to manage related art book selections for FiTA’s programs and courses. Library Day 2012 was one of her projects to encourage FiTA’s students to visit Puncak Perdana Library and read more books.

To reach more theater activist, Kenchana joined Persatuan Teater Malaysia and Persatuan Penggerak Seni Budaya Kuala Lumpur. With the organizations, she is able to share more ideas and promote proper theater and stage management and administration.

For more than twenty-two years working with Young & Rubicam, she has vast experience in copywriting especially Malay Copywriting and Malay translation and has helped Y&R to win several local Malaysian awards in Malay Copywriting category. She helps to develop advertising campaigns and involve in new business pitches. Among the clients she worked on are OCBC Bank, Astro, Caltex, Colgate-Palmolive, Campbell’s, Singapore Tourism Board, LG Electronics, Hong Leong Bank and Yamaha.

After she left the advertising industry, she worked as a part time lecturer at Faculty Film Theatre and Animation and Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, UiTM. She joined the Faculty Film Theatre and Animation in August, 2014 as a Creative Scholar. As she owned a vast experience from the industry, she has been assigned to assist and strengthen the industry linkage of the faculty, under ICAN.

Mazlan Tahir, Theatre activist who needs no introductory in our local theatre circle. He has ample of experience in acting, directing, scenography, and stage script writing. Born on the 7th of August 1965, he holds a MA Performance Arts Management from UKM, bachelor’s degree with honour in Theatre from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). He is very active in screenplay, stage play, lighting designer, stage directing, script writing and he is also a part time educator in theory and practical for Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan (ASWARA) as well as a full time lecturer in Faculty of Film, Theatre and Animation UiTM Shah Alam. He started his way up since 35 years ago and has been starring in more than 200 stage plays. His capability have made him to be chosen as a National Youth Artist (Seniman Muda Negara) from the National Archive for research and reference purposes. He has been constantly chosen to be a panel judge for Festival Theatre for state level and also national level.

Wan Aida Wan Yahaya holds a PhD from Monash University, Australia – specializing in the study of screenwriting, historical films and Asian history. Her Master of Arts (Screenwriting) was obtained from Macquarie University back in 2001, and her first degree is a Bachelor of Education (Hons.) Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) from University Putra Malaysia (UPM).

Writing from a young age and throughout her student years, Aida began to write for the screen in 2003 resulting in her first feature film Jutawan Fakir. Her other accolades include I Know What You Did Last Raya (2004) and Cinta Medik (Season 1 and 2, 2007). Currently, she is reworking a historical film entitled Between Two Skies (2012) into an online digital content.

As a Senior Lecturer with the Faculty of Film, Theatre and Animation, Universiti Teknologi MARA Aida publishes and writes for local and international journals, and at present is exploring the relationship between narratives of the past and its link to the future. Her other interests include screenwriting and producing for short films, feature films, television, documentaries and digital content.

Noor Zahara was born in Taiping and spent her wonderful school years in SK Convent Kota and SMK Taman Tasik in her dearest hometown. She pursued her diploma and bachelor’s degree in Artistic Writing in Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam and was granted the Vice-Chancellor’s Award in 2012.

She underwent an industrial training at Astro Awani before shifting towards a career path as a writer at The R&D Studio in 2013. She was one of the contributing writers of an indie book project entitled Sepuluh Ribu. She also writes various articles and reviews for websites such as Sinema Malaysia, Jalan Telawi and her infamous blog.

She has recently graduated from Curtin University, Western Australia in February and ventured into more genres of writing; playwriting, experimental writing and life writing. She is currently teaching Screenplay, Playwriting, Musical Scriptwriting and Dramatica Analysis under the Artistic Writing Department at the Faculty of Film, Theatre and Animation (FiTA). She is one of many visionary young lecturers at the faculty who hopes to contribute to the nation through committed teachings.

Sanghamitra Dalal holds a PhD in Postcolonial Writing from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia and has written her doctoral dissertation on South Asian Diasporic Fiction in Australia. She has graduated from the University of Calcutta, Kolkata, India and completed her BA, MA and MPhil studies, majoring in English Literature, from the University of Calcutta.

Prior to joining UiTM in 2013, Sanghamitra has taught in Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany and in different secondary and tertiary academic institutions in India. She was a regular contributor to Routledge Annotated Bibliography of English Studies (ABES) in the Postcolonial Literature section from 2008 to 2012, until it has ceased to continue. Sanghamitra was appointed (2003-2004) as a Research Project Fellow under the University Grants Commission (UGC) sponsored Research Programme on “Literary and Cultural Interface between Bengal and Britain in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries” in the Department of English, University of Calcutta. She also worked as a Research Assistant in a Fulbright Alumni Initiative Award Project on “Family Matters: Textual Representations” in Kolkata, India concurrently.

Sanghamitra’s research interests include postcolonial and diaspora studies, life writing and transnational and transcultural literatures. She continues to present papers in various international conferences and publish articles in refereed journals. Sanghamitra is also a published translator and translates literary works from English to Bengali and vice versa.

Muhamad Azhar Abdullah graduated at UiTM Shah Alam with Masters in Art & Design, majoring in New Media. He is a comic artist, illustrator, writer, storyboard artist and concept artist. His comic credit such as self-published ‘Urban Comics’(2001-2002), Liga Pendekar ( Mdec IPCC 2006 Digital Comic Winner), Pendekar Melayu Terakhir and various comic anthologies.

He also involves as pre production artist in Ibn Battuta the animated series, Lat Journey to the world with Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra, Woobie, Sang Wira and Planet Reban. He also a concept artist and storyboard artist for feature film ‘Pontianak vs Orang Minyak’, Papadom2, Tanda Putera and Amir & Luqman ke Laut. Currently teaching drawing at the Animation Department in Faculty of Film, Theatre and Animation, UiTM Puncak Perdana and recently launched his new graphic novel on Alien Invasion on KL called ‘Invasi’ on January 2015.

Mohd. Suhaimi Juhan is a Master of Creative Industries holder, majoring in Animation from Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. His interest is towards 3D animation and 3D modeling. As well as animation, he also proficient in photography specifically in High Definition Range Photography and Cinemagraph (Living Photo) and one of his photos has been selected and published in PhotoVogue by Vogue Italia.

Suhaimi has gone through a few projects under Faculty of Film, Theatre and Animation UiTM such as Konsert Destini (2013), Malam Gala KaryaOne (2014 & 2015), Musical Theatre Destini Anak Bangsa (2014), as well as film Chowrasta (2015). Besides that, he also experienced a few trainings locally and internationally, besides completed a few projects with local and international companies.

As a lecturer in Faculty of Film, Theatre and Animation, Suhaimi mostly teaches Animation courses like Acting for Animation, Digital Animation Technology, Intermediate 3D Animation, Digital and New Media Theories, Introduction to Visual Arts and Introduction to Animation. Besides lecturing, he also is a Bachelor’s Degree Thesis Supervisor, Final Year Project Supervisor, Practical Training Supervisor and an Academic Advisor for Animation and Screen Technology students.

Now a lecturer at Faculty of Film, Theatre and Animation, UiTM, Siti Hajar Aznam is an art educator who holds a Master of Animation from University of Technology Sydney, Australia (2011). She has been awarded the Young Lecturer Scheme Scholarship from Universiti Teknologi MARA in 2009 to pursue her postgraduate studies. Between 2008 to 2009, she performed as a full-time art & design tutor by day and a freelance designer by night. Her first degree is Bachelor of Creative Technology (Screen Arts) with First Class Honors from Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia (2008). She has produced a couple of short films and has experienced working as a film crew with an established production company based in Kuala Lumpur. Upon completing her Diploma in Graphic Design & Digital Media (Majoring in Advertising) at Universiti Teknologi MARA (2002), she worked as a graphic designer at an advertising agency for three years. Today, Siti Hajar Aznam teaches subjects that she feels passionately about; Experimental Animation, Music Video Production, Stop Motion, Art History, and Critical & Creative Thinking.

Aidi Rahimi Ibrahim graduated with the Master of Visual Communication from Faculty of Art & Design, UiTM (2006), Malaysia. First Class Honours Bachelor holder in Screen Art/ Film (2003) and received his Certificate in Journalism/ Multiplatform Media/ TV Drama from Salford University, Manchester, United Kingdom in 2014. During his youth in 1990’s he studied Graphic Design (Mensa Institute, K.L.), Photography and Fine Arts and was a visualizer/ photographer for various advertising agencies in Kuala Lumpur. He also involved with various stage-play/ theater in 1987 – 1997 with Perlis Theater Association (Teatris) and awarded best actor and best director 1995 - 1997.

From the humble beginning as a signboard artist/ painter at the small advertising shops in his hometown, Perlis to a visualizer/ Junior Art Director at the top advertising agencies in Kuala Lumpur, Aidi developed his inborn mastery in photography for various project. In Brunei, he was promoted to the position of Creative Coordinator at one of the well-known women’s magazine publisher. Since 2011, Aidi has been involved as a still photographer for several feature films.

Aidi is now a full time Lecturer at Faculty of Film, Theater and Animation, UiTM teaching photography, drawing and animation and a part time professional photographer, media consultant and fine artist.

Dr. Norman Yusoff

Dr Norman Yusoff pursued his PhD at the University of Sydney, Australia, with his research focusing on genre and temporality in contemporary Malaysian cinema. Prior, he did his M.A. in Film Studies at the University of Kent, U.K.

Norman’s research interest includes film theory, history and criticism; genre studies, Asian cinema (particularly Iran, India and Indonesia), and, Malaysian cinema. His current research project concerns broader questions of genres and modes in both old and contemporary Malaysian cinema. Norman has published articles in Asian Cinema, International Film Guide (2012 and 2010) and a number of local publications. In addition, he is a co-founding editor of the newly revived Jurnal Skrin Malaysia, Malaysia’s only film and TV journal published by UiTM Press.

Norman teaches film studies-related courses such as ‘Film Theory and Appreciation’ and ‘Film, Culture and Society’ at the Faculty of Film, Theatre and Animation, UiTM Puncak Perdana Campus. In the meantime, he is the curator of Wayang@Budiman, a fortnightly film screening-and-talk program organised by Pusat Kajian dan Apresiasi Filem, Alam Budiman, Shah Alam.
