"Chowrasta" makes close to RM6 million in France - by Ashraf Nasser
19 Oct – Director Datuk Prof Abdul Razak Mohaideen revealed that his latest movie "Chowrasta" has collected close to RM6 million during its screening in France.
"It was very profitable and was able to cover the production cost which was RM1.5 million," said the director to Sinar Harian.
The movie, being the director's 38th work, also collected RM200,000 and made it into the Malay Book of Records when 4,416 audience members gathered for the movie's premiere screening last June.
"Chowrasta" is the first movie produced under the production company Fita Studio Sdn Bhd, which is owned by Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in collaboration with Nation Film Studio Sdn Bhd.
The director, who is also the Dean of the Film, Theatre and Animation Faculty (Fita) in UiTM said the production company aims to help the students by giving them direct exposure to the field whenever there is a shooting during their practical.

"Chowrasta" follows a Malay youngster named Hamid. Born in poverty, he faces dire consequences especially during the 13 May 1969 era where everyone is trying to survive by all means. To escape poverty, Hamid works hard until he becomes successful. Once he achieved success, he is determined to help others like him through Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).
The movie, starring Datuk Rosyam Noor, Nora Danish, Chem Amar, Fauzi Nawawi, Wan Hanafi Su, Risteena Munim and Safiah Hanifah, will play in cinemas this 3 December.
